Amazon UK business not as big as you might think
After their recent visit with a Parliamentary Select Committee, Amazon have revealed their UK Sales figures. Information which they had previously kept secret and described it as commercially sensitive. Total sales for the preceding three years were £1.86bn (2009), £2.36bn (2010) and £2.91bn (2011).
I was quite surprised by these numbers as I, like many others I suspect, had been under the impression that Amazon was a major retail force. With 2011 sales of £3bn I have revised my view!
To put these numbers into context: John Lewis had a turnover of £8.73bn, Dixons Stores Group £8.15bn and M&S delivered £9.7bn turnover.
