Cat gets the cream on Twitter

I read an article on Techcrunch this morning about a cat that has managed to amass 500,000 followers on Twitter. More interestingly the cat (or presumably its owner), has managed to monetise this and in one sweep of his feline paw put so many people on Twitter to shame!

Apparently the cat mainly tweets rather banal messages such as ‚Äúand so I slept and then I walked around and then I slept again and then I saw a cobweb” & “OH FINE YES IT IS A SLOW NEWS DAY‚Äù … which of course whilst not the most insightful of messages are still significantly more entertaining than the utter rubbish that so many Tweet these days. At least the cat stays ontopic and on brand with content that is expected and welcomed by it’s huge following.

As if it was not embarrassing enough for many so called “Twitter experts” and “Online Guru Marketeers” to be out performed by a bloody cat, the animal has even managed to monetise it’s following. Yes Sockington (aka Socks) has a website that sells t-shirts with the the animals tweets printed on them. The icing on the cake is that he has re-enforced brand loyalty with his version of a “loyalty program”, his followers have given themselves an identity and claim to be part of “Socks Army”.

Game set and match to the cat.

As I wonder back to my 46,000 followers (a drop in Sock’s water bowl of course) to share this news, I take solice in the fact that Socks is a cat. I hope a boy cat. Which I like to think means that someone has, or will soon be, cutting his balls off :-)

Cheerio!
