G-Cloud, not Google’s but the UK Government’s no less

An ambitious project to create a secure government cloud computing infrastructure is aiming to slash hundreds of millions of pounds from UK public sector’s IT spend. While the private sector has been leading the charge in using so called ‘cloud’ services,  the public sector is potentially set to benefit from adoption of cloud computing too. Search box with two buttons now a protected design

There is no doubt about the value of the Google brand. However it has just been increased by a decision from the US Patent Office to grant Googles application to protect the design of its Search interface. The iconically simple design (large search box, two buttons, big logo) is now protected and importantly gives Google the write to stop other people using this design… should they choose to do so.

Google announcement

Just read the summary of Google’s announcement over at New Media Age, whilst the figures was of some interest I thought the real key info was their announcement of “TV Ads Online” service, a TV-ad-based model that allows advertisers to buy space in traditional TV ad spots on shows being broadcast full-length on YouTube.

The future of online search. Are we answering the wrong question?

Recently there has been some discussion about the future of search. Twitter have taken a position and made a substantial investment, but quite clearly Google, the giant of search, is unlikely to lie down and die just yet. But putting aside the technology arguments, perhaps it is worth considering what would make sense from the users perspective?

‘accidentally’ ranked on page one of Google – how?

 

If you read any of my blog posts or follow me on any of the social platforms, you know I place precisely no value on my organic SEO ranking in Google, hate SEO specialists with a passion and certainly wouldn’t waste time doing any of this ‘optimization’ rubbish that everyone else talks about.

So imagine my surprise when I found that I was on the first page of Google (position 6 actually) for the expression ‘website design company milton keynes’. How did that happen?
